How does routing affect the business workflow?
A model switch can affect output format, latency, quality, and cost. Choosing a cheaper route is useful only if the result still meets the workload’s acceptance criteria. A fallback can keep a request moving while changing behavior in a way the application cannot handle.
That makes evaluation and change approval part of routing. Representative examples should include the difficult cases, expected structured outputs, and escalation behavior. The operator needs a way to review what changed and restore a known configuration when necessary.

Gateway’s bring-your-own-provider-key design keeps provider relationships part of the client architecture. Credentials belong in an approved secure configuration process. The public inquiry and public MCP tools do not accept or manage provider keys.
Do you need a gateway before an operator?
